If you know a friend you can fully trust, Go often to his house Grass and brambles grow quickly Upon the untrodden track. |
I rede thee, Loddfafnir! | and hear thou my rede,-- Profit thou hast if thou hearest, Great thy gain if thou learnest: If a friend thou hast | whom thou fully wilt trust, Then fare to find him oft; For brambles grow | and waving grass On the rarely trodden road. |
118. I counsel thee, Stray-Singer, accept my counsels, they will be thy boon if thou obey'st them, they will work thy weal if thou win'st them: hast thou a friend whom thou trustest well, fare thou to find him oft; for with brushwood grows and with grasses high the path where no foot doth pass. |

I give you rede Loddfafnir, heed it well! You will use it, if you learn it, it will get you good, if you understand it. If you have a true friend fare to find him often. Shrubs and grass grow to cover the untrodden path. |
Hear thout, Loddfafnir, and heed it well, learn it, 'twill lend thee strength, follow it, 'twill further thee: If faithful friend thou hast found for thee, then fare thou to find him full oft; overgrown is soon with tall grass and bush the trail which is trod by no one. |
Heed my words, Loddfafnir, listen to my counsel; you'll be better off if you believe me, follow my advice, and you'll fare well: if you have faith in a friend of yours, go to find him often; brushwood and grass will soon grow high on a road no travelers take. |
121. I counsel thee, etc. If thou knowest thou has a friend, whom thou well canst trust, go oft to visit him; for with brushwood overgrown, and with high grass, is the way that no one treads. |
True friends are hard to come by. Especially, it seems, in today's age of internet. When you have that true friend, go hang out with them. Spend time together. Build that friendship. Don't lose it by letting it die out over time with neglect and inattention. |
