I give you rede Loddfafnir, heed it well! You will use it, if you learn it, it will get you good if you understand it. When you drink ale, call on the main of the earth, for earth is good against ale, but fire against diseases. Oak is good against costiveness, grain against wizardry bearded rye against feuds. They say the moon is good against hate. Alum use for rabies and runes against evil. The earth draws off floods.	Hear thou, Loddfafnir, and heed it well, learn it, 'twill lend thee strength, follow it, 'twill further thee: when ale thou drinkest invoke earth-strength; [for earth is good 'gainst ale, 'gainst ague, fire, 'gainst straining, acorns, 'gainst witchery, steel, 'gainst house-strife, the elder, 'gainst hate, the moon, 'gainst rabies, alum,. 'gainst ill luck, runes--] for earth absorbs thehumours all.	Heed my words, Loddfafnir, listen to my counsel; you'll be better off if you believe me, follow my advice, and you'll fare well: the earth's might can help you if you're drinking mead. Earth fights ale, fire fights sickness; acorns if you're constipated, corn against witchcraft, elder for household strife -- the moon soothes hatred -- alum for cattle-sickness, runes for misfortune, floods will end in the earth.	139. I counsel thee, etc. Wherever thou beer drinkest, invoke to thee the power of earth; for earth is good against drink, fire for distempers, the oak for constipation, a corn-ear for sorcery a hall for domestic strife. In bitter hates invoke the moon; the biter for bite-injuries is good; but runes against calamity; fluid let earth absorb.
The list of "household remedies" in this stanza is doubtless interpolated. Their nature needs no comment here.
